To say we live in uncertain times is, at the very least, an understatement. Every day there seems to be a new crisis in the financial markets, a new scandal in the lives of politicians, or another environmental disaster. These days of uncertainty can lead to anxiety and even despair. However, I point you to a lady that lived in daily uncertainty. Her name is Sarah and her story is recorded in the book of Genesis.
She had no children but she clung to the promise of God that she would one day be the mother of a child and eventually would be the mother of nations. However, with the passage of time she was left to wonder how this could be since the years of childbearing were only a memory. Nevertheless, she tenaciously held to the promise of God. Then, at the age of 90 she brought forth a son, Isaac, and she saw the promise of God fulfilled against all human probabilities.
God’s timing is often that way and it removes all question that the events were random chance, the product of human intervention, or some other scheme devised apart from Him. He wants us to know that He acted for us and kept His promise.
You may be facing times of uncertainty in your life. Look to God’s word and the promises He made. They are not dependent upon circumstances but rather His character. He will never fail! Just ask Sarah.
